Precise Naturals Chicken Meal & Rice Foundation Formula Review:
This Naturals Chicken Meal & Rice Foundation Formula is an excellent formula to start your dog off with because it is rich in nutrients and full of natural flavor. Not only does this recipe include a variety of quality ingredients, but it is preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols – not synthetic preservatives. According to their website, this recipe is designed to “provide the finest quality nutrition for your” dog and it is made with premium quality ingredients like chicken meal, fish oil, whole grains, probiotics, and chelated minerals. Simply put, this recipe is designed to offer complete and balanced nutrition that is highly digestible for dogs and full of natural flavor.
As promised, the first ingredient in this recipe is chicken meal. Before you worry about the word “meal” here, consider the fact that meat meals are simply fresh meats that have been cooked to remove moisture. Fresh meats (like fresh chicken) contain up to 80% moisture by volume – this means that once the dog food is cooked, most of that moisture is lost and the total volume of that ingredient becomes significantly less. Compared to fresh chicken, chicken meal contains up to 300% more protein by volume – this makes chicken meal an extremely valuable addition to this dry food recipe. You will also be glad to see fishmeal included on the ingredients list as a supplementary source of animal protein.
Not only is this Naturals Chicken Meal & Rice Foundation Formula protein-rich, but it is naturally gluten-free. The primary carbohydrates used in this recipe include ground brown rice, rice bran, and oatmeal. All of these are considered highly digestible sources of carbohydrate for dogs and they provide some important nutrients as well. Supplementary sources of dietary fiber include beet pulp and flaxseed. Beet pulp is a somewhat controversial ingredient in the pet food industry, though there is no solid evidence to suggest that it is actually harmful. Flaxseed serves primarily as a source of fatty acids but provides some plant protein and fiber as well.
The primary source of fat used in this recipe is chicken fat. While chicken fat may not sound very appetizing to you, it is actually a very valuable addition to any dog food recipe. Animal-based fats like chicken fat offer a highly concentrated source of energy for dogs as well as essential fatty acids. This recipe also includes flaxseed, sunflower oil, and menhaden fish oil as supplementary fats to help balance out the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid content of the recipe. The remaining ingredients in this Precise Naturals Chicken Meal & Rice Foundation Formula consist primarily of nutritional supplements and beneficial additives. It is good to see that many of the mineral supplements used are chelated – that just means that they have been bound to protein molecules which makes them easier for your dog’s body to digest and absorb. Dried fermentation products act as probiotics to support your dog’s digestion.
Overall, this Naturals Chicken Meal & Rice Foundation Formula has a guaranteed analysis as follows:
- Crude Protein (Min) – 24%
- Crude Fat (Min) – 14%
- Crude Fiber (Max) – 3.5%
- Moisture (Max) – 10%
- Calcium (Min) – 1.1%
- Phosphorus (Min) – 0.9%
- Ascorbic Acid (Min) – 55 mg/kg
- Glucosamine (Min) – 350 mg/kg
- Chondroitin (Min) – 275 mg/kg
- Omega-6 Fatty Acids (Min) – 2.56%
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Min) – 0.43%
- Calorie Content – 420 kcal/cup
Bottom Line:
Overall, Precise seems to be an above-average brand of dog food that offers a decent selection of product choices. This brand pays close attention to the quality and safety of their products by lab-testing all of their ingredients before using them and by adhering to strict standards for quality and safety in the manufacture of their products. Precise offers three different product lines, all of which are focused on high-quality proteins and digestible carbohydrates including some grain-free options. The Precise brand has not been recalled which is a good thing, and a quick review of several products reveal the use of quality ingredients and an absence of low-quality fillers and artificial additives. All in all, Precise is a good brand of dog food to choose.
What is the difference between the Holistic & Natural senior formulas?
We have 2 senior dogs, 12 & 11 years old, and they are our “Golden Girls”. They are each about 50 lbs. They are walked & or taken out about 4-6 times per day, and are basically house dogs.
Which of the senior products would be best for them?
I have an 80 lb. 6 yr. old dog. We feed 1 cup of holistic compleat adult and 1cup of holistic complete pork meal plus 1/2 cup of priecise canned twice a day. My question is, by the time we get the dog food down about half way in the sack They start shying away from eating it. Is it possiable that it has started to go rancid? I also have another older dog on senior bagged food. That does the same thing. It is some what hotter in the back room where we store the food. Plus it seems that it gets to smelling considerably more than when it was new. Your thoughts please
Any word of Precise going out of business? Can’t call them, can’t find them, can’t even buy the product? Is something going on that it is no longer selling it?
